Oil Boiler vs LPG: Which one should I choose?

If you are looking at installing a new central heating system and you live in a rural area, then this blog post will help to explain the differences between oil boilers and LPG boilers, giving you an insight into which boiler would be more appropriate for you to get installed in your home.

If your home isn’t connected to the mains gas grid you have one less option for heating your home and hot water. Fortunately, there are many alternatives on the market, so there’s still plenty of options to consider other than gas alone.

If you are looking for a fairly traditional central heating system, rather than storage heating or air heat pumps, then the best two options for you are to look into getting either an LPG boiler or an oil boiler. Midwood Heating have outlined the differences between both options, so that you have some indication as to which type of boiler would best suit your home.

LPG boilers

LPG boilers function using both petroleum and gas. As LPG is a fossil fuel, these types of boilers provide an environmentally-friendly alternative option to oil boilers as they produce fewer emissions than using oil alone.

As well as powering your boiler, LPG can also be used to fuel your oven and hob, making it quite a versatile option. And unlike oil, it doesn’t produce any soot so are even easier to maintain.

If you opt for an LPG boiler you will need a Gas Safe registered engineer like one of ours to install, service and repair it. Call us on 07833494194 to book an LPG installation today.

Oil boilers

Oil boilers are quite similar to LPG boilers in that they both transfer fuel from a tank that is commonly stationed outside or underground, which the fuel must be delivered to.

Oil boilers provide heat and hot water for your home, making them a complete central heating system. However, one of the main differences between LPG and Oil, is that with oil boilers, the oil cannot be used to fuel your oven, whereas it can from LPG boilers.

Although oil boilers aren't as environmentally friendly as LPG boilers, they are less expensive to run.

If you opt for an oil boiler, it will need to be installed, serviced and repaired by an engineer who is OFTEC registered like someone from Midwood Heating.
